3M Hookit 6 in Abrasive Disc Pad 05776 — Medium-Density Foam, 5/16-24 Thread, 10,000 RPM

3M Hookit Abrasive Disc Pad 05776 is a 6-inch, medium-density foam backing pad with tapered edges and hook-and-loop attachment designed for professional auto body sanding, shaping filler, feathering edges, and low-speed polishing.

This 3M back-up pad is built to support Hookit abrasive discs while offering controlled flex for contoured surfaces. Its medium-density foam balances firmness and give, enabling even pressure distribution across flat panels and gentle conformity over body lines. The J-hook Hookit attachment system allows fast, dust-resistant disc changes and reusable abrasive life, making it practical for busy shops and industrial settings.

How does the tapered edge help with contoured panels?

The tapered 15°–45° edge profile reduces digging on edges and follows gentle curves without creating sharp transitions. That design helps produce smooth featheredges and consistent results when blending primer, paint, or filler.

• 45° tapered edge for safer work on corners and flanges
• Reduced pressure points for even material removal
• Helps prevent gouging when sanding toward edges

What speeds and tools is this 6-inch pad compatible with?

This pad is rated for use up to 10,000 RPM, making it suitable for a wide range of low- to moderate-speed sanders and polishers. The 5/16-24 external mounting thread fits many 6-inch machines and accessories from common manufacturers.

• Maximum safe operating speed: 10,000 RPM
• Mounting: 5/16-24 external thread fits most 6" sanders
• Works with Chicago Pneumatic, National Detroit, Dynabrade models and standard slow-speed polishers

Why choose Hookit hook-and-loop over adhesive-backed discs?

Hookit grips the brushed nylon loop backing on 3M abrasive discs using J-shaped hooks, which lets you attach, remove, and reapply discs without sticky residue. This system resists contamination from dust and debris better than adhesive discs and extends abrasive usability across multiple reattachments.

• J-hook pattern for secure, repeatable disc attachment
• Cleaner swap-outs—no adhesive residue on the pad
• Optimized for industrial environments where contamination is common

How does the foam density affect sanding performance?

Medium-density foam offers a balance between support and flexibility: firm enough to provide consistent pressure for material removal yet flexible enough to conform to modest contours. That balance improves finish uniformity while minimizing operator fatigue during extended use.

• Firm backing for efficient abrasive contact
• Sufficient flex for compound curves and body lines
• Durable construction suited to repeated industrial use

Who is this for: The 3M Hookit 6" Abrasive Disc Pad 05776 is intended for professional auto body technicians, collision repair shops, and industrial finishing teams who need a reliable, reusable backing that supports Hookit abrasives. It is specifically for industrial or occupational use—not intended for consumer retail—and pairs with common slow- to medium-speed sanders for tasks such as paint stripping, primer sanding, shaping plastic filler, featheredging, and low-speed polishing.
