3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Wool Compounding Pad 34125 — Medium Cut, 5/6in Hookit

This pad is part of the 3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Paint Finishing System and is built to pair with the Perfect-It Random Orbital Polisher and matching compounds. The pad’s wool face provides controlled cutting power for both fresh and cured finishes, and the Hookit backing allows fast, secure changes on 5-inch and 6-inch backing plates. Designed for professional refinish environments, it balances aggressive removal with safe heat characteristics common to random orbital polishing.

How does this pad remove defects without creating holograms or swirl marks?

The medium wool construction combines fiber loft and density to cut through moderate sanding marks and oxidation while the random orbital action disperses heat and avoids the linear gouging typical of rotary machines. When used with the recommended Perfect-It compound, the system is tuned to deliver a clean cut and a finish that requires minimal follow-up polishing.

• Medium wool fibers for controlled abrasion
• Random orbital motion reduces linear swirl patterns
• Formulated to work with 3M Perfect-It compounds to minimize haze
• Single-sided Hookit backing for stable, low-vibration attachment

Which surfaces and paint stages is the 34125 pad best suited for?

This pad is versatile across a range of OEM and refinish basecoats and clearcoats, effective on both fresh paint and fully cured finishes. Use it for removing light-to-moderate sand scratches, buffer trails from sanding, and other common refinish blemishes prior to final finishing steps.

• Freshly cured clearcoats and basecoat/clearcoat systems
• Panels with mild to moderate sanding marks (e.g., P1500–P2000 level)
• Areas needing efficient material removal without aggressive cutting
• Automotive panels where burn-through risk must be minimized

How do I use the pad correctly to get consistent results?

Mount the pad on the correct diameter backing plate (5" or 6"), apply the matched Perfect-It compound sparingly, and keep the polisher moving to avoid heat buildup. Start with lower pressure and speed, refine technique across test panels, and finish with a finer pad or polish as needed for gloss.

• Attach via 3M Hookit for firm, quick changes
• Use paired Perfect-It compound for optimal cut and finish balance
• Keep the polisher moving to control heat and even cut
• Follow with a finishing pad/polish for final gloss if required
