Cal-Van Tools 18" Professional Windshield Knife — 18in Reach, Padded Ergonomic Handle, Heavy-Duty Steel/Aluminum

The Cal-Van Tools 26 18" Professional Windshield Knife is a heavy-duty, padded-handle cutting tool designed to reach and remove cured urethane along the dash line with an 18-inch overall length.

When removing windshields or trimming cured adhesive beads, reach, control and a durable blade matter. This windshield knife combines a sturdy steel and aluminum body with a cushioned ergonomic grip to let technicians apply steady pressure while working close to the dash. It accepts the number 356-1 replacement blade, making maintenance and blade swaps straightforward on the job.

How does this knife improve reach and control when cutting cured urethane?

The 18-inch overall length provides extra reach to access tight dash angles and deep-set glass edges without forcing awkward body positions. A rigid metal construction prevents flex under pressure, while the padded handle reduces hand fatigue during prolonged cutting tasks. Together these features make precise, steady strokes easier for experienced installers.

• 18-inch length for extended reach to dash lines and recessed seals
• Heavy-duty steel and aluminum frame resists bending
• Padded ergonomic handle for improved grip and reduced fatigue

What blade does it use and how easy is blade replacement?

This tool is supplied as a unit compatible with the number 356-1 replacement blade, a common size for automotive windshield knives. Replacing the blade is a straightforward process that keeps downtime minimal. Carrying spare 356-1 blades lets technicians restore cutting performance quickly on-site.

• Uses standard number 356-1 replacement blade
• Quick blade swaps minimize workshop interruption
• Replaceable blade extends the tool’s usable life and performance

Is the construction suitable for professional, repeated use?

Yes — the combination of heavy-gauge steel and aluminum components yields a tool built for frequent, demanding tasks. The solid construction reduces flex and improves safety when applying leverage to cut hardened adhesive. A reinforced grip and robust mounting for the blade mean it stands up to daily shop conditions.

• Steel and aluminum frame for durability and stiffness
• Reinforced handle mounting to withstand torque and pressure
• Designed for repeated professional use in automotive repair shops

How does the handle design affect comfort and accuracy?

The knife features a padded ergonomic handle shaped to fit the hand for better control during long removal jobs. The padding softens impact and reduces blistering, while the ergonomic shape guides the wrist for straighter strokes. That combination helps technicians maintain consistent pressure and cleaner cuts.

• Padded grip reduces hand strain during extended use
• Ergonomic shape supports accurate, controlled cutting motions
• Improves safety by reducing the chance of slips under load
