When a new camshaft or lifter set goes into an engine, the first moments of operation expose delicate metal surfaces to extreme pressure before full oil circulation and hydrodynamic film develop. COMP Cams 153 Installation Lube is designed to provide immediate, heavy-duty protection at assembly and during the break-in process, reducing the risk of premature wear on lobes, lifter bottoms, and mating gears.
Apply the lube generously to every cam lobe, the underside of each lifter, and the distributor gear at installation. Ensure even coverage so the high-friction contact points have a continuous protective layer before oil pressure builds.
COMP Cams 153 is formulated specifically for assembly and initial run-in; it does not replace the break-in oil regimen but complements it by guarding metal surfaces before oil pressure stabilizes. Follow the cam manufacturer’s warm-up and rpm recommendations while using the lube to ensure proper mating and seating.
The product targets the engine components that see the greatest boundary lubrication stress at start-up: cam lobes, lifter faces, and distributor gear teeth. By creating a heavy, clingy protective film, it reduces metal-to-metal wear until full hydrodynamic lubrication is established.
Who is this for: COMP Cams 153 is intended for engine builders, performance enthusiasts, racers, and mechanics installing new camshafts, lifters, or rebuilding engines. It’s especially useful whenever components are exposed to initial dry-start conditions or when precise break-in protection is required—works on street builds, track engines, and any application where cam and lifter longevity matters. Part number 153; 8 fluid ounces per bottle.
Q: Can I leave COMP Cams 153 in the engine after break-in?
A: Yes; the assembly lube will be diluted and circulated by engine oil. It’s formulated for initial protection and does not need removal.
Q: Is this lube compatible with all cam types?
A: COMP Cams 153 is suitable for most camshafts and lifters, including performance and stock types. Consult specific cam manufacturer instructions if unsure.
