CRKT Exitool Compact Emergency Seat Belt Cutter & Window Breaker — Black, Folding Clasp, Tungsten-Carbide Tip

CRKT Exitool is a pocket-sized emergency rescue tool that mounts to a seat belt and provides a guarded cutter plus tungsten-carbide window breaker for rapid egress.

Designed by custom maker Russ Kommer, the CRKT Exitool is a compact, low-profile lifesaving accessory intended to stay within reach during a vehicle emergency. Its folding clasp fits standard seat belts and keeps the tool unobtrusive until needed. Built with a guarded high-carbon stainless cutting edge, a robust glass-breaking tip and a textured glass-reinforced handle, this tool prioritizes quick deployment and user safety when every second counts.

How does the Exitool help during a car emergency?

The Exitool combines two core rescue functions: a seat belt cutter shaped to slice through webbing with a single pull, and a window breaker to shatter tempered glass when doors won’t open. Its mounting method leaves the tool close to the occupant so you don't have to fumble or hunt for help.

• Guarded seat belt cutter uses a high-carbon 420J2 steel blade for fast, clean cuts
• Tungsten-carbide window breaker delivers focused impact to break side windows
• Mounts directly to a seat belt with a folding clasp for immediate access
• Low-profile stowage prevents accidental activation while keeping it handy

Is the Exitool safe to carry around children or in tight spaces?

Safety is built into the design: the cutter blade is recessed to reduce the chance of accidental contact, and the window breaker is capped with a protective tip cover when not in use. The compact size and clasped mounting help keep the tool secure and out of casual reach.

• Recessed cutter design shields the edge from unintended contact
• Protective tip cover prevents the glass breaker from snagging or scratching
• Compact POM handle and fold-in clasp minimize exposed parts while stowed

What materials and dimensions should I expect from the CRKT Exitool?

The Exitool uses proven, durable materials suitable for emergency use: a 0.65" (16.5 mm) 420J2 stainless cutter blade, a tungsten-carbide glass breaker, and a glass-reinforced POM handle for strength and grip. The finished tool measures roughly 5.88" open, small enough to remain unobtrusive on a seat belt.

• Blade length: 0.65" (16.51 mm) with satin finish
• Blade steel: 420J2 high-carbon stainless; thickness 0.02" (0.51 mm)
• Overall open length: 5.88" (149.45 mm); sheath weight: 1.2 oz (34.02 g)
• Ergonomic glass-reinforced handle for reliable grip under stress

How do I install and use the Exitool quickly when time matters?

Installation onto a standard seat belt takes seconds using the folding clasp; position it where the buckle or shoulder strap is reachable from your seated position. In an emergency, pull the cutter through the belt in one firm motion or strike the window breaker against a corner of the side window where tempered glass is easier to shatter.

• Clip the folding clasp onto any standard seat belt; tuck the tool flat
• For cutting: draw the webbing through the recessed cutter with a decisive pull
• For breaking glass: remove protective cover, strike a side window corner with the carbide tip
• Store tip cover in place until needed to prevent snagging or injury

It’s a practical addition to personal safety gear for commuters, families, rideshare drivers, taxi operators and anyone who spends significant time in vehicles. If you value rapid, simple tools that don’t interfere with daily use but are ready when seconds count, this compact seat-belt-mounted rescue tool is a sensible choice.
