CURT 2" Vertical Receiver Adapter 45013 — converts downward 2" to horizontal, 5,000 lb GTW, gloss black

The CURT 45013 vertical receiver adapter converts a downward-facing 2" receiver into a standard horizontal 2" receiver with a 5,000 lb gross trailer weight and 500 lb tongue weight capacity.

When a vehicle’s hitch receiver is welded or mounted pointing down, you need a reliable adapter to accept standard ball mounts or hitch accessories. The CURT 45013 vertical receiver adapter provides that conversion with precision-machined construction, a durable powder-coat finish and the towing capacities needed for many light- and medium-duty towing tasks. It’s engineered to make a hidden or downward-pointing hitch practical for everyday towing or accessory use without compromising fit or finish.

How does this adapter turn a vertical receiver into a usable horizontal hitch?

The adapter slides into a 2" x 2" vertical receiver and presents a horizontal 2" x 2" receiver tube for standard ball mounts or accessories. It has a vertical shank that fits downward-facing openings and a horizontal opening to accept 2" shanks, restoring conventional towing geometry quickly and securely.

• Fits a 2" x 2" vertical receiver opening
• Provides a horizontal 2" x 2" receiver tube for standard accessories
• 4-1/4" overall length with a 2-7/16" drop for common trailer alignments
• Accepts standard 2" shank ball mounts and hitch-mounted accessories

What towing capacities and measurements should I expect from model 45013?

The CURT 45013 is rated with a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 5,000 pounds and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 500 pounds. Those ratings are suitable for many light-trailer loads, cargo carriers and bike racks when used within the adapter’s length and drop limitations.

• Gross trailer weight: 5,000 lb
• Tongue weight: 500 lb
• Overall length: 4-1/4" for compact installation
• Drop: 2-7/16" to align trailer couplers or accessories

How is the CURT adapter built to last and ensure a precise fit?

CURT manufactures this adapter using CNC forming and robotic welding to maintain consistent dimensions and structural integrity. Each unit is mechanically descaled to smooth surfaces before a gloss black powder coat is applied, creating a finish that resists corrosion, chips and UV exposure for longer service life.

• CNC-formed for accurate, repeatable dimensions
• Robotically welded to ensure consistent structural strength
• Mechanically descaled for smooth, paint-ready surfaces
• Durable gloss black powder coat for rust and chip resistance

Will this adapter work with my current hitch accessories and safety gear?

Yes—when your accessories have a standard 2" shank, they will slide into the adapter’s horizontal tube and pin in place like a typical receiver. Always follow the accessory and vehicle manufacturer’s ratings and use appropriate hitch pins, clips or locking hardware and safety chains sized to your towing setup.

• Accepts standard 2" shank ball mounts and accessories
• Use with appropriate hitch pin or locking pin for secure attachment
• Follow vehicle and accessory ratings to avoid overloading
• Maintain safety chains and correct hitch ball size when towing

Who is this for? The CURT 45013 vertical receiver adapter is ideal for drivers who prefer a hidden or downward-facing hitch but still need the versatility of a standard horizontal receiver. It’s well-suited to owners of trucks, SUVs and utility vehicles that tow light trailers, use hitch-mounted cargo carriers, bike racks or other 2" shank accessories. If you want a precisely made, cosmetically finished adapter that restores conventional towing options without welding or permanent modifications, this CURT unit fits the bill.
