E-cowlboy 7402 Universal Outside Thread Chaser Tool 1-1/4" to 5" O.D., Replaceable Dies, Handheld

The E-cowlboy 7402 Universal Outside Thread Chaser repairs damaged external threads from 1-1/4" up to 5" outside diameter quickly and without expensive cutting equipment.

When external threads on pipes, shafts, or fittings become battered, corroded, or partially stripped, re-cutting or replacing the part can be costly and time-consuming. The E-cowlboy 7402 is a handheld, adjustable thread-chasing tool designed to restore threads close to their original form across a wide diameter range. It uses replaceable dies and a simple tighten-and-back-off technique so you can refresh thread profiles on site with minimal setup.

How does the 7402 work to bring damaged threads back into service?

The 7402 clamps onto the undamaged portion of the thread and uses precision dies to re-form the worn crests and roots as you reverse the tool over the damaged area. It doesn't remove large amounts of material like a cutting die; instead it realigns and cleans the thread profile for reliable engagement.

• Fits external threads from 1-1/4" to 5" O.D.
• Uses replaceable standard dies for many common pitches
• Tighten on good threads, then back off across damaged sections
• Rebuilds thread shape rather than deep-cutting metal

Which thread sizes and pitches are included or supported?

The 7402 accepts six standard dies and directly replaces No.216884, covering a broad selection of threads per inch so you can tackle many common imperial pitches. It’s designed for outside threads across the stated diameter range, making it versatile for pipes, coupling nuts, and shafts.

• Six standard dies included for broad coverage
• Compatible with TPIs including 4, 5, 6, 7, 7-1/2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 11-1/2, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 24
• Direct replacement for part No.216884
• Ideal for imperial-threaded hardware common in industrial and maintenance work

What practical benefits will I see if I use this thread chaser?

Using the 7402 saves time and expense by restoring serviceable threads without removing or replacing components. The tool’s design reduces the need for power thread-cutting machines and limits downtime during repairs.

• Quick thread restoration on-site without specialized machinery
• Minimal learning curve—simple tighten-and-back-off operation
• Cost-effective: avoids buying or renting cutting equipment
• Preserves more material compared with aggressive cutting dies

How do I use and maintain the E-cowlboy 7402 safely and effectively?

Operation is straightforward: start by securing the tool slightly on a good thread section, then ease it back over the damaged area to reform the thread profile. Keep dies clean and inspect them for wear; replace as needed to maintain performance.

• Tighten tool lightly on undamaged threads to seat dies
• Back the tool over the damaged segment to chase the threads
• Clean dies after use and store in a dry location
• Replace worn dies to ensure accurate thread profiles

Who is this for? The E-cowlboy 7402 is built for maintenance technicians, plumbers, welders, mechanics, and workshop professionals who need a fast, portable way to repair external threads on parts ranging from fittings and pipe ends to shafts and coupling nuts. It’s also useful for hobbyists and small shops wanting to avoid the cost and space requirements of power thread-cutting machines while keeping hardware in serviceable condition.
