Milwaukee M18 FUEL 5-inch Random Orbital Sander, Bare Tool — POWERSTATE Brushless, 12,000 OPM

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 5-inch Random Orbital Sander is a cordless, brushless finishing tool designed to deliver high-speed material removal and smooth surface results without the need for a corded power source.

This M18 FUEL sander combines POWERSTATE brushless motor performance with a compact, ergonomic design to tackle sanding, smoothing, and prep tasks across wood, composites, and light metal work. As a bare tool it ships without batteries or charger, letting professionals and serious DIYers add it to an existing M18 system. The sander is tuned for efficiency and control, offering consistent orbital action up to 12,000 OPM under load for faster stock removal and refined finishing.

How fast and powerful is the M18 FUEL sander for real-world sanding?

The sander uses Milwaukee's POWERSTATE brushless motor to maintain speed and torque under load, giving you up to 12,000 OPM for aggressive material removal when you need it and stable performance during prolonged use. This motor architecture improves durability and reduces maintenance compared with brushed designs.

• POWERSTATE brushless motor for sustained power
• Rated up to 12,000 OPM under load for faster sanding
• Designed for consistent orbital motion and even finish

What control and comfort features help on long jobs?

The sander's form factor and vibration management let you work longer with less fatigue. It balances control with responsiveness, and its grip contours promote a secure hold whether you're detail-sanding or flattening larger surfaces.

• Ergonomic body for improved handling in multiple positions
• Reduced vibration for longer, more comfortable use
• Compact footprint for access into tight or curved areas

Which tasks and materials is this sander best suited for?

This 5-inch random orbital sander excels at stock removal, surface preparation, blending, and finishing on wood, painted surfaces, and some composite materials. It is a versatile choice for carpentry, cabinetry, renovation, and refinishing projects where speed and a smooth finish matter.

• Rapid material removal for stripping and leveling
• Fine finishing and surface prep before painting or staining
• Suitable for cabinetry, furniture, trim, and general construction tasks

What should I know about batteries, accessories, and maintenance?

As a bare tool, the sander requires an M18 battery and charger (sold separately), which lets you choose runtime and power based on battery capacity. Routine maintenance is minimal: keep pads and ventilation clean, and use compatible 5-inch hook-and-loop sanding discs for best results.

• Bare tool—requires M18 battery and charger (not included)
• Use 5-inch hook-and-loop sanding discs for easy changes
• Keep dust ports and pad free of debris for consistent performance
