ThreeBond Case Sealant Liquid Gasket 1184 — semi-drying rubber sealant for engine & gearbox covers, oil- and coolant-resistant

ThreeBond Case Sealant Liquid Gasket is a semi-drying synthetic rubber liquid gasket designed to create flexible, oil- and coolant-resistant seals for engine and gearbox covers.

Made for repair and assembly work where rigid gaskets are impractical or unavailable, ThreeBond 1184 provides a visco-elastic seal that remains slightly flexible after curing. It bonds to metal, aluminum, and many painted surfaces, filling irregularities and preventing fluid leaks without the need for replacement paper gaskets in many applications.

How does ThreeBond 1184 form a reliable seal on engine and gearbox cases?

ThreeBond 1184 cures to a semi-dry, rubbery film that conforms to mating surfaces and resists oil and coolant. Its visco-elastic nature absorbs small movements and vibrations, reducing the chance of leaks when compared to brittle sealants.

• Semi-drying synthetic rubber for a tack-free surface after cure
• Flexible film tolerates thermal expansion and vibration
• Adheres to metal, aluminum, painted parts, and many composites
• Fills minor surface irregularities and bolt-hole paths

What are the recommended uses and application tips for this liquid gasket?

Use ThreeBond 1184 on engine covers, oil pans, transmission cases, and other machinery housings where a flexible, long-lasting seal is needed. Apply a continuous bead, allow proper flash-off time if directed, assemble within the product’s working window, and torque fasteners to specifications.

• Apply a uniform bead to clean, dry mating surfaces
• Remove old gasket material and oil residue for best adhesion
• Observe manufacturer cure/assembly time before pressurizing system
• Use correct torque sequence to avoid uneven compression

Which materials and conditions are compatible with ThreeBond Liquid Gasket?

The formulation bonds well to ferrous and non-ferrous metals and many paints and coatings used on engine parts. It resists common automotive fluids but should be tested on unfamiliar plastics or rubber to confirm compatibility before widespread use.

• Compatible: steel, aluminum, cast iron, painted surfaces
• Resistant to oils, coolants, and common lubricants
• Not intended as a structural adhesive for load-bearing joints
• Test small areas for adhesion on unusual plastics or coatings

Who is this product for? Mechanics, restoration hobbyists, and industrial maintenance technicians who need a dependable, semi-drying liquid gasket for engine cases, gearboxes, pumps, and housings will find ThreeBond 1184 useful. It’s particularly helpful when replacing a traditional paper gasket is difficult, or when a flexible, vibration-tolerant seal is preferred. Choose ThreeBond 1184 when you want a professional-grade sealer that simplifies assembly, reduces leak risk, and stays flexible through thermal cycles.
