COOL STAR 16" 0.75" double-dog (DD) steering shaft — a 3/4" steel replacement shaft engineered to accept standard 3/4" round universal U-joints for hot rods, sand rails, and performance steering builds.
This precision-cut 16-inch steering shaft from COOL STAR is designed for builders and mechanics who need a compact, rugged intermediate shaft that mates cleanly with common 3/4" round U-joints. Machined from solid steel and finished for corrosion resistance, the shaft uses a 0.75" double-dog (DD) end profile to ensure a secure connection to existing universal joints and steering columns. It’s a direct option when modifying steering linkages for custom vehicles, restorations, or off-road rigs where space and reliability matter.
The COOL STAR shaft uses a 0.75" DD end that bolts to standard 3/4" round U-joints, creating a reliable mechanical link between the column and the steering gearbox. Its 16" length offers a compact span ideal for shortened columns or tight engine bays. Installation typically requires standard fasteners and common hand tools.
This shaft is versatile: common uses include rock tracks, muscle cars, street rods, hot rods, and sand rails where a compact, robust intermediate shaft is required. Beyond automotive projects, it also adapts to industrial or marine controls such as grinder linkages, automatic lifts, levelers, and sea valve actuators. It’s intended for mechanical linkages that accept a 3/4" U-joint interface.
COOL STAR manufactures the shaft from hardened steel to withstand steering torque and repeated loading. The finish helps resist surface corrosion and wear in exposed installations. While built for durability, alignment and proper U-joint selection remain important to avoid binding or accelerated wear.
Confirm your U-joint type and steering geometry before purchase: this shaft requires a 3/4" round universal U-joint and works best where the 16" overall length fits without forcing extreme angles. Check column-to-pitman arm distances, and ensure fasteners are tightened to recommended torques. If in doubt, compare measurements or consult a mechanic to verify compatibility.
Who is this for? This COOL STAR 16" 0.75" DD steering shaft is made for builders, restorers, and fabricators working on compact steering setups: hobbyist hot-rodters, off-road racers, custom shop technicians, and anyone needing a stout, easily integrated intermediate steering shaft that mates with ubiquitous 3/4" U-joints. It’s not a bolt-in kit for every vehicle — it’s a purpose-driven component for projects where exact fit, strength, and reliable U-joint compatibility are priorities.
Q: Does this shaft fit my 3/4" U-joint?
A: Yes — the COOL STAR shaft uses a 0.75" double-dog end made to mate with standard 3/4" round U-joints.
Q: Can I shorten or lengthen the 16" shaft?
A: The shaft is sold at a fixed 16" length; shortening requires cutting and re-machining the end, which should be done by a qualified fabricator.
