The Lisle 62970 is a compact, interchangeable-leg tool designed to remove and install fuel tank lock rings from 4" to 7-1/4" without damaging the tank or ring.
If you work on fuel tanks, the Lisle 62970 simplifies a common but fiddly job: engaging serrated and traditional lock rings securely while keeping the drive centered. Its channel body accepts two different leg sets so you can adapt quickly for smaller GM serrated rings or the larger styles found on many pickup trucks and vans built from 2004 onward. The compact profile prevents the tool from dangling into the work area where it might strike hoses or fittings.
The 62970 uses a channel-style body that accepts two interchangeable leg sets. Swap legs to cover rings from 4" up to 7-1/4", and the channel keeps the drive centered for even contact. This reduces slippage and helps protect plastic fuel sender housings and surrounding fuel system components.
Yes — the kit is built to handle both smaller serrated GM lock rings and more conventional designs. The leg geometry engages teeth or flats reliably so you can apply torque without rounding the ring. That versatility makes it useful across domestic makes and varied fuel-sending assemblies.
The updated legs cover many 2004-and-newer models where manufacturers changed lock ring designs. Typical fits include full-size pickups and several minivans and SUVs. Use it for Ford F-150s, Chevrolet pickups, Chrysler/Dodge minivans, PT Cruiser, Dakota and Durango models that use the newer ring form.
The tool's compact footprint keeps it clear of surrounding components so it won't hang over the opening and risk striking fuel lines, electrical connectors, or suspension parts. That makes it easier to operate in tight wheelhouse or trunk access areas where space is limited. The centered drive and short profile also improve control when using a ratchet or breaker bar.
Who is this for: The Lisle 62970 Fuel Tank Lock Ring Kit is aimed at professional technicians and DIY mechanics who service fuel modules and tanks on a range of domestic vehicles. If you frequently remove or install fuel sender lock rings — especially on post-2004 pickups, SUVs, and vans — this compact, adjustable tool reduces risk of damage and speeds the job. It’s also a practical addition to any garage toolkit when you need a reliable, vehicle-specific fit without carrying multiple fixed-size tools.
